- Abstract
We will present in 15~20 minutes the hard technical limits of current graphic creation within the Wikimedia project. We then will introduce some interesting possibilities and technologies, with a focus on Wikipedia-friendly's Sharemap.org initiative for which financial support is needed and critical for long term sustainability.
- Detailed proposal
We will present in 15~20 minutes the hard technical limits of current graphic creation within the Wikimedia project. After what we will introduce some interesting possibilities and technologies, mainly the need of layers to separate the shape from the labels. Taking lessons from the most technical graphic creation on wikipedia —map creation—, we will make an introduction to the independant Wikipedia-friendly's Sharemap.org initiative : an online GIS map creation project tailored for wikipedia and its users. Sadly or as predictable, this heavy, poland-based project need funds. Also, we will finish with short overview of previous or ongoing graphic project, their risk of collapse, and the critical need for stable financial support for long term sustainability.
