Abstract

The Language Engineering team develops internationalization (i18n) and localization (L10n) tools for more than 285 languages for Wikimedia websites. This talk will discuss the language coverage matrix which tracks the complexities of ISO 639-3 and Wikimedia language codes as well as language names for hundreds of languages. We will also introduce Wikimedia’s Language Coverage dashboard which is a tool that tracks language tools coverage for every major language and its variants and provides a variety of analyses with visualizations and graphs. This dashboard demonstrates extensive internationalization support for gender, plurals, grammar, language keymaps, webfonts, universal language selector and translate tools.
