Detailed proposal

In August and September 2012, two Wikimedians attended the London 2012 Paralympic games in London on behalf of Wikimedia Australia and the Australian Paralympic Committee. This was one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar.

This presentation describes what was achieved, and lessons learned for Wikimedians covering future major sporting events. It describes the work done by the chapter building the relationship with the History of the Paralympics in Australia (HOPAU) Project and the Australian Paralympic Committee. It covers issues regarding copyrights in the taking of photographs and recording of interviews. It details the degree of cooperation received, and of access obtained. It will highlight the achievements of the exercise and why it was so worthwhile, including internet traffic and recognition by government and sporting bodies.
