Abstract
Archaeology is one of the most popular humanities. In Wikimedia projects there is a lot to find regarding this subject. Most Wikipedias have articles on archaeological themes, Commons provides thousands of pictures showing archaeological sites, artefacts, people and so on. At Wikisource there is old archaeological literature. But the quality of Wikipedia articles is indifferent, structured work is mainly only possible in single projects. Why? I suppose because we don't know each other. But we could help ourselves by learning from each other.
Detailed proposal
Archaeology is one of the most popular humanities. In Wikimedia projects there is a lot to find regarding this subject. Most Wikipedias have articles on archaeological themes, Commons provides thousands of pictures showing archaeological sites, artefacts, people and so on. At Wikisource are old archaeological literature. But the quality of Wikipedia articles is indifferent. So we can often see where an archaeolocial site is to be found an were the archaeologists who lead the excavations come from. Structured work is mostly only possible in single projects. Why? I suppose because we don't know each other. But we could help ourselves by learning from each other. So we should join together.
I think about the possibilities of creating a chapter as a "Thematic Organization", accepted by the foundation. Such a thematic organization should represent the Wikimedia world to the "archaeological world" and should be a point were archaeological institutions and archaeologist could get in contact with us. And we could work overcoming the limits of different languages on archaeological problems, could help oursevels with literature and images and so on. Local Wikimedians could help with local museums, institutions and archaeologists.
