The Annual competition "Picture of the Year" (POTY) is event where the images that became Featured Pictures during the year, are voted on by members from all Wikimedia projects, to produce a single winner. This analysis explore the history, organization and future of POTY.

The Annual competition "Picture of the Year" (POTY) is event where the images that became Featured Pictures during the year, are voted on by members from all Wikimedia projects, to produce a single winner. This analysis explore the history, organization and future of POTY. Since it's creation in 2006, the Picture of the Year competition is one of the highlights of Commons. After seven years of existence, the competition, that in the last edition had 4000 participants, will have it's methods, history, criteria, timeline and rules analysed and discussed.
