Abstract

This hackathon is for hacking Ideas instead of software! IdeaLab is an incubator we built on Meta-wiki for Wikimedians to share their ideas and skills with each other. We're creating an engine for developing projects that aim to improve some aspect of Wikimedia's websites or community. We first launched the space to encourage collaboration and early feedback for Individual Engagement Grant proposals, but any idea to improve Wikimedia is welcome in this Lab. Come spend a few hours creating, improving, and discussing ideas for new projects with other Wikimedians.

Detailed proposal

This hackathon is for hacking Ideas instead of software! IdeaLab is an incubator we built on Meta-wiki for Wikimedians to share their ideas and skills with each other. We're creating an engine for developing projects that aim to improve some aspect of Wikimedia's websites or community. We first launched the space to encourage collaboration and early feedback for Individual Engagement Grant proposals, and we'll be continuing to use the space for this purpose, but any idea to improve Wikimedia is welcome in this Lab. Prospective grantees, big dreamers, detailed scopers, writers, designers, community organizers, project planners, coders and and all other sorts of Wikimedians are welcome. Come spend a few hours creating, improving, and discussing ideas for new projects together! The goal of the session will be to come up with some new ideas, improve some old ideas, and build project teams to turn ideas into actionable projects.

This session doesn't really fit the standard program model, obviously, but I'm submitting it here in hopes it might make sense to think about making time for unconference-participatory stuff like this somewhere in the program. Let me know what you think the options are!
