- Abstract
Many Wikimedians are involved in proposing and running projects such as editathons, competitions or mini-conferences. This workshop help participants to understand the requirements of such projects in the context of Project Management Body of Knowledge, so that they can manage them better. Participants will be asked to bring a small project they are considering to the workshop.
- Detailed proposal
This proposed workshop could be run over half a day for a small group (10-12) at a time outside the main conference. Participants will be introduced to the Project Management lifecycle and learn to apply it to their own project as well as clarify the project's purpose, objectives and scope; assess the needs of the stakeholders; consider the variables involved and how they are related to one another; and explore how that relationship affects the success of the project. I am a university teacher of project management but this session will be introductory only and intended for the types of projects that a Wikimedian might be presented with. It will give the participants a chance to work with their project as a way of developing a practical understanding in the time allowed. It will not be able to cover all the project management areas of knowledge.
