Wikimania DevCamp will take place August 7-8, 2013, as a pre-conference event before Wikimania. Everyone is welcome to the DevCamp days -- you don't have to register ahead of time.
To help plan for this year's DevCamp - the organizers are asking for input and brainstorming from interested participants. All ideas are welcome!
Wikidata

Menus on the side or reduced
Hi,
In Moodle, you can reduce and "send" menus to a small tab on the left side. Go to http://demo.moodle.net/. In the Login menu, click on the minus in the title bar. The menu is reduced. If you click on the small vertical bar, the menu is sent on the left side of the window.

OpenStreetMap mapping party
Propose to do a more hands-on mapping event "party" around Hong Kong Polytechnic University during the pre-conference/dev-camp, using walking papers (pen + paper) to take notes and mark where things are and then enter the information into OpenStreetMap. - Yes that's a topic that makes me sleepless. Protecting yourself by fighting for a free internet, would be also an way we should talk about.
- PGP works, but I believe the key-servers sucks. So let discuss if we could use mediawiki to store our public keys inside. Together with clientside encryption[1] perhaps we are able to communicate via mediawiki-mail without anybody can sniffing us. Wikimaps
The Wikimaps project proposes to make a round table for geodata with different Wikimedia projects present. We have just completed a workshop in State of the Map Baltics (Tartu, August 3 & 4), where the participants have developed some ideas for the reuse of old maps. In the DevCamp we hope to demonstrate georeferencing maps in Wikimedia Commons, discuss geodata in Wikimedia and explore digitizing maps together with the Open Historical Maps.
