A smartphone based hive mind participating in a brainstorming session held during Wikimania Hackathon 2012

Wikimania DevCamp will take place August 7-8, 2013, as a pre-conference event before Wikimania. Everyone is welcome to the DevCamp days -- you don't have to register ahead of time.

To help plan for this year's DevCamp - the organizers are asking for input and brainstorming from interested participants. All ideas are welcome!

Wikidata

Wikidata will be in a state where there is a lot to hack on for both experienced as well as new developers. We can help people set up their dev environment but also get some actual hacking done. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 13:52, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

APIv2

APIv2 RFC has been under discussion for a while, and can use some love. --Yurik (talk) 14:14, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Menus on the side or reduced

Hi,

In Moodle, you can reduce and "send" menus to a small tab on the left side. Go to http://demo.moodle.net/. In the Login menu, click on the minus in the title bar. The menu is reduced. If you click on the small vertical bar, the menu is sent on the left side of the window.

OpenStreetMap mapping party

Propose to do a more hands-on mapping event "party" around Hong Kong Polytechnic University during the pre-conference/dev-camp, using walking papers (pen + paper) to take notes and mark where things are and then enter the information into OpenStreetMap. No prior experience required, no GPS required. Aude (talk) 19:49, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

OpenStreetMap development

After the mapping party staying inside and working on the cooperation between Wikipedia and OSM. How can we bring OSM to WMF-servers? --Kolossos (talk) 19:17, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Keysigning

Let's have a PGP/GPG keysigning exchange so we can communicate a little more securely with each other! Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 17:47, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Protect yourself online

I bet Wikimedians would be interested in some security training in how to protect yourself by improving your digital security practices. Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 17:48, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Yes that's a topic that makes me sleepless. Protecting yourself by fighting for a free internet, would be also an way we should talk about.
PGP works, but I believe the key-servers sucks. So let discuss if we could use mediawiki to store our public keys inside. Together with clientside encryption[1] perhaps we are able to communicate via mediawiki-mail without anybody can sniffing us. This proposal solves not all problems and perhaps we can find in discussion also other ways. --Kolossos (talk) 11:06, 19 July 2013 (UTC) My PGP-Key for kolossos-Ät-wikipedia.de

Wikimaps

The Wikimaps project proposes to make a round table for geodata with different Wikimedia projects present. We have just completed a workshop in State of the Map Baltics (Tartu, August 3 & 4), where the participants have developed some ideas for the reuse of old maps. In the DevCamp we hope to demonstrate georeferencing maps in Wikimedia Commons, discuss geodata in Wikimedia and explore digitizing maps together with the Open Historical Maps. Old maps of Tartu will be taken through the process. --Susannaanas (talk) 19:21, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Pywikipediabot

Pywikipediabot recently switched to gerrit and the developers have been making a push with the 2.0 rewrite. There's a lot of work still to be done as well as writing documentation. Legoktm (talk) 00:26, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Making Edits easier to view

I've been working on my Replay edits. I'd like to share my work and ideas with interested folks .--Jeph paul (talk) 15:17, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
