- Abstract
The Wikimedia project see an increasing number of automated and semi-automated edits; a look at the recent changes on many project will show that human editors are being (or have been, in some projects) overtaken by bots. While this is sometimes viewed with worry, this presentation will explain what all those bots do and why we should be happy that the community developers unleash them on our projects. Long live our robotic friends!

The presentation provides a quick survey of what automated process do on the projects, who writes and maintain those tools, and why they have become invaluable allies (and why it's a good thing they did). Some of the more prominent tools are showcased, and their impact on the editing communities of the English and French Wikipedias are examined.
Finally, we examine our crystal ball for a bit forecasting on the future of bot editors and on the tasks they have not yet tackled but where they could shine, followed by a brief Q&A.
