I terminate my job in March and were willing to travel/backpack around Europe and Asia after that. Then I thought a dream of mine were to travel in the Trans-Siberian Railway and realized I could use this trip to getting to Wikimania. Apart the fact I want to go to Wikimania by train, I’m not decided yet if I make the one-way travel in 1 month/2 weeks and if I return by train or continue to explore Asia; but if other people want make the one-way travel in 2 weeks I will come along with them. I speak French (mother tongue), English, some German, a bit of Russian (and will learn more in the coming months), a bit of Finnish, and no Chinese (I will learn some things).
  2. I live in Shenyang, China, and will take train to Hong Kong from Beijing, so I can join the China section. I know Chinese (native) and English. I think I can be the translator for Wikipedians who do not understand Chinese, and also help foreign Wikipedians buy tickets (the official website for ticket reservation is in Chinese and can only be paid with Chinese bank accounts/credit cards). --Shujen Chang (talk) 19:50, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Live in Tianjin and may go to BJ w/ Shujen. I prefer to go HK by Beijing-Kowloon Through Train. Which is slower than high-speed train but can arrives Hong Kong Hung Hom Station (which called Kowloon Station in China train system) directly (means that you needn't wait hours at Lok Wu Port or Lok Ma Chou Port. There are fewer people in Hung Hom Port XD). The through train takes about 24hrs (1 p.m - 1 p.m the following day) and you need to sleep on the train. but the service is good. High-speed train takes about 10hr (8 a.m. - 6 p.m.) and you have to spend time on Shenzhen Subway and port. So why don't take through train? P.S:China Railway official website (also called "the 12306") can only use few ID card and I don't know if passport is supported (if take through train, you can't use the 12306. Through train's tickets are sold by another way. ).--123.30.137.108 10:31, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Train tickets booking in China

The booking opens online 20 days before train departure (opens at railway station 18 days before departure). In July to August, there's always a lot of Chinese people buy tickets for tours and school trips (because of holiday and the huge population in China), so it's often fully booked very quickly once the booking opens 20 days before departure. It means, it is difficult to buy tickets when get to China.

However, the online booking system is in Chinese, and only accept Chinese Debit/Credit Cards (China UnionPay) for payment, it does not accept international Debit/Credit Cards (e.g. Visa, Master, etc), so it isn't fit for foreigners to book tickets. In this case, I and User:Park1996 are volunteering to provide booking assistance for foreigners.

For booking assistance, please contact me at i at blue.cat / shujenchang1993 at gmail.com or User:Park1996 at park1996 at gmail.com , and provide us your departure date and copy of your ID (it is needed for booking), you can pay me in cash (accept EUR/USD/CNY) when you get to China.
