- Abstract
The Wikimedia Foundation is funded by readers worldwide pitching in to keep Wikipedia free -- as in free to use and free of advertising. Our financial needs are communicated to users through fundraising banners at the top of Wikipedia pages. The fundraising team must craft messages that motivate readers to give, and provide easy-to-use donation flows that are optimized for countries worldwide. Only a tiny portion of users donate -- therefore, we must always be improving our methods. The Wikimedia online fundraiser is based on constant testing and optimization of different messages, designs, and donation flows.
- Detailed proposal
The WMF fundraiser is constantly changing. The best performing banners have evolved over the years, as has the strategy for when to run banners and for how long. We’ll take a look at the new developments for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
This session will provide a:
- Brief recap of banner testing over the last two years
- Discussion of how the campaign is shifting away from a single year-end campaign into multiple campaigns
- Look into the day in the life of a fundraiser & our team dynamic
